What Are Licensed Books?

Most books on Alps are free. A few are published under a license your school buys first, because they are traditionally sold as physical or PDF books — and we partner with those publishers to offer interactive, adaptive editions. The Library marks them clearly, you can read a preview before anyone commits, and once the license is active the title appears in Add curriculum like any other book.

Three Ways to Buy, Depending on Who You Are

Two of them you do yourself, in the app, in about a minute.

K-12 Teachers

Buy the book for your whole class, online.

Self-serve

Open the title in the Library and click Purchase License. Alps counts your active classes, prices the licenses, and gives you a quote you can hand to whoever approves spending. Turn it into an invoice when you are ready. Your school always pays in K-12 — nothing in Alps ever charges a student.

Remit details and a W-9 are on the invoice.

Access starts the moment the invoice is issued, so your class is not waiting for a bank transfer to clear.

Higher-Ed Professors

Buy for the class, or let students buy their own access.

You choose

Higher education decides who pays, and the choice is settled on the quote. Buy the title for the whole section the same way a K-12 teacher does — or hand it to the students and stay out of the money entirely.

The department pays

Same three steps as above: quote, invoice, ACH or check. Every student in the section is covered and nobody is asked for a cent.

A student can pay online, or redeem an access code bought from your bookstore. Nobody loses access over money while an assistance request or grace period is open.

Campus Bookstores

Order codes in bulk and sell them the way you sell any other access code.

Bulk quote

Email us the title and the quantity. We send a bulk quote and an invoice; once it is settled you receive that many redemption codes. Students redeem them in Alps and the title unlocks straight away — no card needed at any point.
